Especially old pro Brit writers like Frank Cottrell Boyce…and TVWriter™ wants everybody to know that we not-so-old-pro U.S. writers are envious as hell of him:

Merseyside writer Frank Cottrell Boyce is to turn his hand to writing for Doctor Who.

Cottrell Boyce, the man behind the London Olympics opening ceremony, Millions and 24 Hour Party People, has written one of the episodes of the hit BBC sci-fi drama, which returns to TV next month. The much-anticipated eighth series of Doctor Who will land on BBC One on Saturday, August 23.

The feature-length premiere episode, entitled Deep Breath, will see The Thick Of It star Peter Capaldi take on one of TV’s most iconic roles as the Doctor, alongside Jenna Coleman as his companion, Clara.

Frank told the ECHO: “It’s like joining a family. It’s a great thing to be involved with.

“I grew up loving Doctor Who, and my teenage son was a big fan of it, too.

“It’s a pleasure to write it and I’m looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. I’m hoping there’s a bit of Malcolm Tucker in there, too.”
