  • John Schumacher is the new VP of development at Black Label Media, which in and of itself is no big deal. The big deal for new writers is that the company has put Schumacher in charge of its new Writer’s Lab, and that the Lab’s first project is a program involving new writers developing “original ideas” for the company. (Right now the ideas seem to be for films only – no TV? Boo! – but anything designed to help new writers gets a round of applause from This Boy!)
  •  Chris Sparling (BURIED) is writing the pilot for an NBC series based on the Stephen King short story Aryana.” (Cuz, you know, if you run out of comic books to adapt you can always turn to SK. Or is it the other way around? No way Yers Trooly can keep track of how many Stevie projects are up and around screens of all sizes.)
  • Al Waller (AMERICAN DAD) has written the pilot for Fox’s QUEEN OF EVERYTHING, an animated comedy about “an evil queen who…realizes that running a Queendom isn’t easy when you have no people skills and everyone hates you.” (Aw, c’mon, admit it. It sounds funny, doesn’t it? And…AMERICAN DAD!)
